Cleanliness, Safety, and Accessibility of La Romana Beaches: International Certification

La Romana, December 5, 2024 – La Romana continues to stand out internationally for its commitment to the cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of its beaches. For the seventh consecutive year, the tourist destination has earned the prestigious Blue Flag award, a recognition that certifies the high environmental standards of its beaches and marinas. This time, seven beaches in La Romana have received the award, making the region the tourism hub in the country with the most Blue Flag certifications.

International Recognition of Environmental Quality
The Blue Flag program, coordinated globally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and in the Dominican Republic by the Institute of Environmental Law (IDARD), honors beaches that meet strict criteria for cleanliness, safety, accessibility, and sustainability. This certification ensures that the beaches of La Romana are not only attractive tourist destinations but also examples of environmental responsibility.

The certified beaches are:

  • Bayahibe Beach (operated by Hilton La Romana)
  • Dominicus Beach (operated by Viva Dominicus Beach & Palace by Wyndham, Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus, Catalonia Bayahibe & Royal La Romana, Dreams Dominicus La Romana, Sunscape Dominicus La Romana)
  • Minitas Beach (operated by Casa de Campo Resort & Villas)

Tourism Community Commitment to Sustainability
Andrés Fernández, president of the La Romana-Bayahibe Hotel Association (AHRB), emphasized: “This award represents the highest standards of environmental quality. Each participating property meets criteria for responsible management, water quality, environmental education, safety, services, and accessibility.”

The official flag-raising ceremony was held at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, where the flags and recognitions for the 2024–2025 period were presented. This achievement highlights the commitment of tourism operators and local authorities to the preservation of natural resources.

A Bright Future for La Romana’s Beaches
The Blue Flag award not only underscores the beauty and quality of the beaches but also reinforces the region's commitment to sustainable tourism. This recognition makes La Romana even more attractive to investors seeking environmentally responsible destinations.
